This program is potentially used to counter-attack the radical ideology. Since 2006/2007, Faculty of Education and Teaching at IAIN Surakarta has adopted a program of Integral Muslim Personality Development Supervision written in a book. Many expect that IAIN Surakarta becomes the strongest bulwark in the city to halt the growth of radicalism. P>Surakarta, central Java, witnesses proliferation of Islamic radical groups. This condition becomes a new problem that can undermine traditional authority's power and make the world of da'wah a religious contestation arena. The media is part of an authority that has its logic, where media users are free to produce and market ideas in the digital space. The results of this study indicate that the contestation occurs not only in the gripping and traditional authorities but also in the new authorities who are present amid polemics. This qualitative research uses the content analysis method on online media data and Twitter for a period of one month. This article discusses the factors that influence the polemic about the use of wayang in da'wah in the digital space and complements the shortcomings of previous studies. Differences in understanding, group background, culture, and interests as well as an ideology have made the dynamics of the contestation more complex. Understanding the polemic of wayang in da'wah, which is being discussed in the digital space, has shown how the contestation of religious authority is taking place. This contestation not only gave rise to new actors, but also shifted established actors in the face of Indonesian Islam. The paper argues that the cyber contestation is motivated not only by religious or primordial sentiments, but also by practical political interests. By finding the typologies and expressions, this paper shows that all Islamic groups nowadays make their own cyberspace as a new battleground in order to show and propagate their existence. Using content analysis of news and articles in online media, this paper found typology and expression of Indonesian cyber Islam. Many groups make their own cyberspace as a new battleground in order to show and propagate their existence, as they realize that the winner of the cyberspace battle will give a huge impact on the face of Indonesia in the future.

It is important to understand the position of each group in Indonesian communities, especially in the aftermath of the Election of Jakarta Governor in 2017, in which many important identities, ideologies, and discourses are contested in contemporary Indonesian Islam.

This study aims to find the typology and expression of each group in Indonesian cyber Islam. The paper focuses on the contestation among the moderate, the radical, and the liberal Indonesian Islamic groups in cyberspace.
