Plus he's a guy thats beloved yet really isnt popular. i think he's alot like dylan or neil young in that respect, he has tried and done a ton of different styles and genres, yet no matter what he does its always brilliant. Pneumonia was recorded in 1998 but was not released until 2001 due to some legal hoo ha with the record label and possibly some of the band members. but the guy has explored everything from alt country, to death/heavy metal to softer sounds just him and the acoustic guitar. Ryan Adams can be a musical genius and his work with his first band Whiskeytown is well worth seeking out. follows his muse no matter what that is, and no matter what anyone else may say. but part of what makes ryan adams so brilliant is he is a true artist. i'd argue thats probably harder to write a pop tune than a indie/rock tune. In fact, I really think that Ryan shows an influence from PW and The Replacements.Ĭertainly im not going to argue with the OP, as exploring the dischography of ryan adams is highly recommended. He kind of reminds me of Paul Westerberg in that way. He does have some stuff that I can see being too poppy for some. Its pretty straightforward poppy alt.country up until Mirror, Mirror, and then you get. I love his newest one and Heartbreaker because it's just him and an acoustic guitar. Aside: the middle section of Whiskeytowns Pneumonia is so weird.
